Box Named the Emergence Capital 2014 Company of the Year

We are pleased and honored to present the 2014 Emergence Capital Company of the Year Award to Box.

Jason Green (Emergence General Partner) and Dan Levin (COO, Box)

Almost exactly 4 years ago, in December of 2010, we met with Aaron Levie and Dan Levin of Box for an update. We were blown away by the progress the company had made in its full fledged transition from a B2C to a B2B company and knew that we wanted to be a part of it’s mission of collaboration for business professionals in the cloud. At that point in 2010, Box had grown its business 3X year over year, they had doubled their employee count, and their eyes were clearly focused on the enterprise. The company’s freemium model was working, and bigger business customers were starting to upgrade. We believed Box would become a very important company in the enterprise cloud.

Fast forward 4 years to today – Box has more than 1,000 employees, 30 million users, 275 thousand organizations who use the product and over 40k paying organizations including 99% of Fortune 500 companies. While they have made incredible progress, they have an enormous opportunity ahead. There are over 2 billion connected professionals in the world, all of whom need access to their most important documents when and where they want. Box set out to become the leader in this category and has executed aggressively on that mission, raising over $500 million in the process.

We are very proud to be associated with this enterprise cloud leader, and we are not only impressed by the company’s growth, but also with the way they have gotten there - with passion, ambition, great humility and humor – all traits that we seek in the entrepreneurs and companies we back. We’re quite confident that we’ll see Box continue to achieve great success in the marketplace.

Congratulations Box for being the Emergence Company of the Year for 2014!
