Matt Holleran is a Venture Partner at Emergence. He defines new investment strategies, leads investments and takes board seats. He started and leads the firm's Business Freemium Strategy. He sourced and was a board member of ServiceMax and sourced and is a board observer of Box. He also led the investment in Insightly and is a board member.
Matt is an expert in cloud application business models and cloud ecosystems. He has specific knowledge and a unique network that entrepreneurs use to select and leverage cloud platforms, marketplaces and ecosystems. Prior to joining the firm, Matt's team started and built the AppExchange and Force.com partner network at salesforce.com. He is a frequent speaker at freemium, SaaS and cloud computing events.
Matt has walked in the shoes of executive teams at each stage of a software company's development. He joined Datasweep when there were no customers and led sales, marketing and business development until the company was the clear leader in manufacturing and analytics software. At Clarify, he led a product line from no customers to market leader and then became a highly successful sales executive. At salesforce.com, Matt was a recognized leader when the company went from being an emerging US SMB sales force automation SaaS player to a global enterprise CRM application provider and cloud platform leader. Prior to his software career, Matt was a financial analyst in Morgan Stanley's private equity division and worked at Bain & Company.
Matt has a BA in Engineering Sciences and Economics from Dartmouth College and an MBA from Harvard. Matt has spoken at the HBS Cyberposium and has been a guest lecturer at the Stanford Business and Engineering schools. He has two thoughtful and busy kids. He enjoys cycling, the backcountry, and reading, but lacrosse is his favorite sport.
